Bhubaneswar: To assess future scenarios from different consumer sectors, the State Energy Department has decided to prepare a long-term action plan for the next two decades.
Officials said the German development agency, Deutsche Gesellschaft farther Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ), which has implemented an Indo-German energy program in this country, has signed an agreement with the State Energy Department for the development of action plans for Odisha.
GIZ will provide technical assistance for the same thing, while the GridCo state utility will coordinate with the German body on behalf of the Odisha government.
The plan is expected to be ready in 2024.
Some of the main objectives of the plan are the optimization of the generation, transmission and distribution of assets, the maximization of revenue and optimization of power supply, increased efficiency and long-term planning, disaster transmission, and distribution infrastructure, overall energy security, increased access to finance and improve the distributed renewable energy model, read official records.
“This program will include the preparation of energy databases, energy action plans, web-based decision support tools, vision for utilities and capacity building in the future.
Action plans will include future energy planning scenarios from various sectors such as industry, MSME, Commerce, Transportation, building, agriculture, health, water resources for the next 15-20 years, “said an official.
Because the initiative will require the involvement of other departments the state government also to ensure that the energy demands of various sectors are assessed correctly to be included in the action plan, the Department of Energy has decided to form an inter-departmental coordination structure for the program.
Thus, various government departments have been asked to nominate Nodal officers for this program.
