Vadodara: Trends keep the dog in a pet may have peaked during a pandemic Covid-19, but if the charges paid to the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) to keep the dog is an indicator, they only get two dogs to maintenance.
While pet parents have purchased or adopted many dogs, nothing seems to bother paying the charges dogs to VMC.
Civic body also includes this in its budget to religion and never bothered to recover the amount.
VMC Chief Accounts Officers Santosh Tiwari said the previous amount is a tax and then turned into a dog charges.
“It has been improved in the past and brought to the current number.
Over the years, the payment towards the amount is very low but almost no one came to pay the amount,” said Tiwari.
This year, the VMC has adopted an aggressive approach and has decided to recover the amount.
While the announcement in this regard has been made by the Standing Committee of VMC in his commentary on the budget, there is no clarity on how the charges will be collected and what the penalty if the charges are not paid.
Chairman of the Standing Committee, Dr.
Hitendra Patel said that the VMC has a list of veterinarians in the city.
“We plan to reach out to pet owners through them.
An assistant Commissioner of the City will be given the responsibility to make sure this happens and charges collected,” said Patel.
Patel, however, added that the accusation was not an effort to increase revenue.
“The amount collected will be small, but through it we will be able to reach those who have a pet dog and connect with them.
They may have suggestions for us to do,” he said.
