Chandrapur: Women’s organizations join hands to oppose regulations imposed by the Government of Karnataka against Muslim students wearing headscarves to college.
A separate delegation from the Iranian community and the front of the minority wing of the Congress met with the district collector and handed over a memorandum in the name of the Prime Minister, criticizing the move.
Shiya Isna Delegation Ashari Irani Bahuudeshiya Sanstha highlighted the incident of a young man’s horde shouting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ while following a hijab girl to college, and questioning the salvation of women under the rules of the law.
Collective said residents of every religion have the right to practice their faith freely, but the girls and women who will study in hijab are harassed and threatened in Karnataka.
They demanded that the central government immediately pay attention to the increasing situation and resolving the problem.
The Congress minority cell delegation led by MLA Pratibha Dhanorgar met the district collector and condemned the examples of hijab women who were harassed on the Karnataka campus.
In memorandum forwarded to PM Narendra Modi, the delegation said that while the central government had given the slogan ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’, the incident at Karnataka University contradicts the spirit.
They call it a violation of constitutional rights and seek the security of Muslim girls who go to college in Karnataka.
They also demanded that Muslim women in Karnataka be allowed to maintain their safety from Hooligan.
