Hyderabad: Three Artistes from Telangana made it to the Padma award list announced on the Republic’s night on Tuesday.
Darshanam Moglaiah, who remains a 12-step stringed musical instrument Kinnera, Kuchipudi Dancer Gaddam Padmaja People’s singer Reddy and Tribal Ramachandraiiah was awarded Padma Shri in the art category.
Moglaiah (70), which originates from Mahbubnagar Regency, not only maintains his family’s tradition remains alive but also plays a role in recreating Kinnera.
His ancestors were said to have played at the Court of Raja Wanaparthy about 400 years ago.
The fifth generation artist, Moglaiah has lured the audience with the music and even Tollywood has noted.
Life forgotten, his art was taken to public notification by Dasari Ranga, a research scholar from Osmania University.
With Mamidi Harikrishna, director of culture, organizing public appearances by Moglaiah, an unknown artist until now becoming a household name, has even been sung for the upcoming film from Tollywood Top Heroes.
Kuchipudi Dancer Gaddam Padmaja Reddy is credited with reviving the form of ancient dance ‘kakatiyam’.
Through his research, he reconstructed the forgotten form of dance conducted during Kakatiya’s rules 1,400 years ago.
This study involved spending time at the Ramappa temple in Warangal and banking with little but significant literature available.
Padmaja Reddy breathes life into the form of dance and first presents it in 2017.
He followed him with a public show in Shilpa when Vedika in the city in December last year.
Ramachandriah, a tribal artist, was a folk singer from Konavaram Village Manugur in Bhadradri District Kothagudem.
Coming from the St Koya community, he sings about tribal history and often travels to Chhattisgarh to sing for the community there.
He also sang during ‘Samakka Sarakka’ Jathara held in Medaram in Muluugu who was the largest religious meeting of tribes.
The Anudeep District collector congratulated the Tribal Artiste who was awarded with the Honor of Padma.
