Patna: Although pair violence has dropped to 40% from 43%, according to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5), women whose husbands consumed alcohol must face more violence in dry bihar.
Also, the majority of women who experience violence in any form, do not seek help or tell anyone about it.
Among women whose husbands are often drunk, 83% report violence from their partners.
While the 34% of women who suffer from violence say their husbands never drink.
However, 43% said the drinking drinks they drank, but were not drunk.
Data for NFHS-5 was collected from July 9, 2019 to 2 February 2020 and the survey was conducted in all 38 Bihar regencies.
Overall 42,483 women aged between 15 and 24 years and 4,897 men between 15 and 54 years from 35,834 households surveyed.
For pair violence, data is collected from women between 15 and 49 years.
The violence of the couple is common in all age groups, but less among educated women.
Also, almost 23% of women reported suffering from injuries caused by their husbands.
The most common injury is injury and bruising (39%), followed by deep wounds, broken bones and teeth or serious injury (17%).
Apart from such cases, 16% faced eye injury, sprains, dislocated or small burns.
About 4% of such women suffer severe burns.
More than 82% of women never asked for help or told anyone about such violence.
About 45% of them seek help from their husband’s relatives and 40% of their own family members.
Only 3% of those who seek help from doctors and 2% of the police.
The International Institute of Science Science (IIPS) SK Singh emphasizes the need to have a strong women’s network in the form of Mahila Mandal and self-help group, especially in rural areas, to fight such violence.
