Chandigarh: Punjab Police on Tuesday arrested a man because he tried to damage the statue of Dr.
B Ambedkar in the city of Philaur District Jalandhar.
The defendant has been identified as Bhiku Meena (25), a resident of Jawani Village in Husan Nijra district in Madhya Pradesh.
He was arrested after police scan CCTV recordings, who showed him throwing stones and flower pots on the statue on Monday midnight.
However, he managed to destroy the glass shield around him.
The defendant had been ordered for hurting religious sentiments following complaints by several groups.
Jalandhar (rustic) SSP Naveen Singla claims that the defendant was mentally unstable.
A local hotel also said that the same for the defendant added that he usually roamed the area when people gave him food.
Charanjit’s minister’s chairman Singh Channi described him as a tragic incident and urged people to hold back.
He said exemplary action would be ascertained against criminals who pamper themselves in this type of cowardice.
No one will be permitted to disrupt harsh peace in the state, the Head of the Minister said, added that he had directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to increase supervision in every corner and corner of the country.
Channi said that being a border country, the situation in Punjab was always sensitive but the state government was fully alert to deal with it and destroyed the design of the nefarious of anti-social and antinating elements which tried to create riots in the state.
He added that exemplary action would be carried out against anyone who tried to disrupt the law and the situation of order in the state through the action.
