Rajkot: Power Sector Power Distribution Company, Paschim Gujarat VIJ Company Ltd.
(PGVCL), which supplies electricity in Saurashtra Regency and Kutch suffered annual losses of 1,400 crore rs until power theft.
Director of SMAnaging PGVCL, V Jaralwal fired a letter to 66 mlash and parliamentary members who contained feeder details in each area where power consumption was more expected.
The letter was looking for public representative assistance in reducing this unfair practice.
The company has started an aggressive vigilance drive and detects 29,506 cases of electricity theft in the past three months and finds theft worth 64.14 crore in the industry, commercial, housing and agricultural connections.
Speaking with Toi, Baranwal said, “I did not post the letter to this public representative but sent one senior person from each region to personally meet them and submit my letter.
The letter explained how, despite being a public sector company, we must bear our own expenses and seek their help in convincing people not to pamper electricity.
“According to sources, generally when PGVCL staff detects power theft in agricultural connections, they are often attacked or starting clashes.
Consumers refuse to pay a penalty and take illegal connections.
In such cases, the discom expects local MLAS support and parliamentarians to convince the wrong customers.
Similar to industrial connections also in rural areas.
PGVCL letters that provide statistical details from their expenditure and management countries, “PGVCL gets payment for 84 of the 100 units sold and for it, except for some technical reasons, strength theft is a responsible factor.” The letter states that if the PGVCL gets a deficit amount to make its distribution network better, providing better facilities to consumers, reducing transformer errors and also reducing tariffs.
