Pipli: Vote counting for the Bypoll held in the constituency of the plot assembly in Odisha is underway amid strict security settings.
Calculation starts at 8:30 a.m.
The candidate for Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Rudra Maharathy led by 1,406 votes in the first round of the vote count, according to the Election Commission.
He was followed by BJP Nominee Ashrit Pattasayak with 2,649 votes and Congress Candidates Bishwokeshan Harichandan Mohaparna got 766 votes.
Bypoll must be after the death of BJD Mla Pradeep Maharathy in October last year because the chair fell empty.
BJD’s Rudrapratap Maharathy, Ashrit Patnaik and Congress Biswhwokeshan HariChandan Mohapatra is one of the total ten candidates in Medan.
Kanwar Vishal Singh, police supervisor, Puri said five platoon troops along with additional SP and two DSPs had been deployed in Pipli.
“We have mobilized enough strength in the pipes and Puri City.
Only authorities are permitted in a strong room.
We conduct intensive patrols in the sensitive fields of constituencies,” SP said.
He further added that if all kinds of violations were found, the action would soon be taken and the main gate was guarded with barricades and with sufficient number of officers.
Bypoll is scheduled to occur first on April 17, but it has been canceled after the death of Congress candidates who then Ajit Mangaraj who surrendered to Covid-19, three days before polling.
Voting was suspended again on May 13 and May 16.
