Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Wednesday started an anti-polythene drive to enforce a blanket ban on a single plastic product and a thermocol (polystyrene) in the city.
The enforcement team conducted a raid on Fraser Road, Road Exhibition and Road Station and confiscated 18-20kg of politene and plastic materials from shops and collected a fine of RS11,000 from them.
Arvind Kumar, City City Body Manager, said only one team from the head office was assigned to enforce a plastic ban due to other involvement.
“The team stormed shops in areas such as the Road Exhibition, DAK Bungalow, Road Exhibition and Road Station.
Starting on Thursday, every team will travel in Azimabad, BankiPore, Kankarbagh, new capital, Patliputra and Circle of Patna City.

He added: “We have previously traveled consciousness, so shops get enough time to clean their supplies.
Separate teams have formed in each circle for anti-polythene drives.” Senior officials of the state forest department, the environment and climate change have requested Manufacturers, dealers, and traders to clean their shares consisting of plastic material before the December 15 deadline.
This prohibition also includes a disposable plastic cup, cutleries, and packaged food covers.
Kanchan Kumari, City Manager (Patliputra Circle), said the drive for plastic prohibitions would be carried out from Thursday and so on in Ashiana Colony, Digha, Rajeev Nagar and Patliputra (new and old).
“The team consisting of five officials will lead this drive effectively.
We have previously made a drive with a single plastic use.
This time, we focus on thermocol products, especially shops that sell decorative items and cutleries for events,” he said .
Meanwhile, members of the Confederation of Indian Traders (CAIT) and the Bihar Plastic Industry Association (BPIA) have expressed concern for plastic and thermocol products.
Kamal Nopany, Chair of the Cait State, said the center had decided to remove the single plastic from July 1, 2022 while the country applied this from December 15.
“The state should give more time to spend the remaining prohibitions before imposing a ban.
In addition, we need to set the time to make alternative settings for plastic and thermocol.
