Warsaw: Deputy Foreign Minister Poland said on Monday, he hoped Israel would change the “approach” on the bill in the claim of restitution of World War II which had been condemned by the Jewish state as “immoral”.
The bill, which passed the house under the parliament last week, was intended to provide greater legal certainty for property owners to historical claims from Nazi’s work.
But the critics said it could effectively block the Jews from claiming the property confiscated during the Holocaust.
Deputy Foreign Minister Pawel Jablonso spoke after Israel’s charges of D’Affaires in Warsaw, Tal Ben-Ari Yaalon, was summoned to the Polish Foreign Ministry to complain in the new law.
Jablonski said in a television briefing after the meeting Monday that Israeli criticism “inappropriate” and “we hope the approach of Israel will change”.
Jewish claims for properties are frozen during the communist era and, unlike other countries in the region, Poland has never had a comprehensive law on the claim of restitution since the fall of the Communist government in 1989.
Some families who lose property have searched for restitution or compensation of the process Fucked and long.
In some cases, there are fraudulent claims for resitution.
The new law sets the cut-off date for several legal challenges of up to 30 years.
This means that if someone buys a pre-war property in 1989 and has a special official confirmation since then proves the right they have it, every historical owner will now be excluded from fighting properly.
Jablonsti said the critics in Israel “referred to the problem of the Holocaust, which was not handled by this law.
This shows, I have the impression, lack of knowledge about facts”.
“This law is not intended for anyone,” he said.
New law still has to be passed by the Senate and signed by the President to enter.
The Israeli Embassy in Warsaw previously said “this immoral law will have a serious impact on the relationship between our country”.
“Basically it will prevent the restitution of Jewish properties or compensation requests from the survivors of the Holocaust and their descendants and the Jewish community who call Poland’s house for centuries.
It is confusing,” said the Embassy.
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs also summoned the Polish Ambassador to Israel, Marek Magierowski, on Sunday.
