Poland PM Looking for NATO Intervention in Belarus Migrant Crisis

Written by news2in

LONDON: NATO must take “concrete steps” to resolve the migrant crisis on the border of Belarus, Polish PM Mateusz Morawiecki quoted on Sunday, adding that Poland, Lithuania and Latvia can request consultation in Article 4 of the Alliance agreement.
Based on Article 4, all allies can request consultation at any time, in the opinion of one of them, their territorial integrity, political independence or security is threatened.
“It’s not enough just for us to openly express our concerns – now we need concrete steps and commitment to all alliances,” Morawiecki told the Pap news agency managed by the Polish government.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, the main supporters of Belarus leader Alexander Lukashenko, said that Russia was ready to help resolve the crisis, the news agency reported.
Morawiecki told the PAP that European Union leaders would discuss further sanctions against Belarus, including fully close the border.
