Poland’s Prime Minister rejected our criticism of the media and property restitution bills

Warsaw: The Prime Minister of Poland on Thursday rejected criticism against the bill regarding the ownership of the property and property restitution authorized by the parliament, after the United States, one of the most important allies Warsaw, condemned the law.
In sitting parliament which was full of turmoil on Wednesday, MPs of Polish Parliament issued a bill which would strengthen the company’s ban from outside the European Economic Zone controlling Poland’s announcer.
Opposition said the bill aims to spit out the TVN24 news channel, which is owned by the Discovery Media Group Inc.
based in the US and critical of the right-wing nationalist government.
US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, said Washington was “very problematic” by passing the bill, which he said was targeting the most watched independent news stations in Poland and one of the largest US investments in the country.
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, denied this.
“We have no intention of certain TV channels, it is only about tightening regulations, so there are no situations where companies from outside the European Union will buy media in Poland,” he said at a press conference.
Blinken also asked Poland not to continue with the law which is expected to be increasingly difficult for the Jews to recover property confiscated by the Nazi German invaders during the Holocaust and stored by postwar communist rulers.
Morawiecki said the law applied the 2015 verdict by the Polish Constitutional Court that the deadline must be determined after the wrong administrative decision was no longer challenged.
“It has nothing to do with the fear expressed by our American friends about us,” he said.
