Poor maintenance: Swimming pool in Karnataka’s Davanagere is closed since 2015

Davanagere: Even though the swimming pool began by the Department of Youth and Sports Empowerment at Devaraj Urs Layout at Davanagere City in 2008, by spending more than Rs 1.6 Crore, and providing all the facilities needed to swim, it was closed in 2015 because of poor.
maintenance.
“The pool was built with the intention of producing good swimmers at the national and international level, and it was one of the best pools in the state, just next with those in Bengaluru and Bagalkot.
It has a 10m diving board, and its length is around 25m, has a depth Minimum 3FT and maximum 18ft depth, “said Assistant Director of Sports B Srinivas.
“Because of the lack of a swimming pool that functions here, local swimmers that compete at the national and international level are increasingly trained in the pool in Harihar, which is smaller,” said Laxmana, a national swimmer father, Manikanta L.
“There are many talented swimmers in Davanagere, but because of the lack of swimming pools, they don’t get the necessary exposure,” said Sundaresh Satyanarayana, the first swimming coach in Davanagere.
“Revathi Local Girl Nayaka, Putri Huchhavvanahalli Manjunath, became an international swimmer, when I trained it,” Satyanarayana said.
Davanagere could be a hub for swimmers, if the pool was renovated, he observed.
Some aquatic sports events, including water polo, diving and swimming can also be done in this pool after renovation, he added.
The pool renovation is underway by replacing tiles and machines, including pumps, with more grants than Rs 2.5 Crore provided by the Davanagere Smart City Limited project.
“We are building a gym, balcony, sheets with the framework for the audience gallery, in addition to the solar roof, and combines advanced technology.
The swimming pool will get a facelift at the end of November,” said the Smart City MD Ravindra Mallapur project.
