Beijing: Some Apple suppliers and Tesla Key said they have stopped production on Sundays in some of their Chinese facilities to comply with a more stringent energy consumption policy.
Apple Supplier Unimcron Technology Corp said that three subsidiaries in China had to stop production from midday on September 26 to midnight on September 30 to “comply with the Regional Government Electricity Policy”.
It does not expect a big impact, adding that other factories will make production, the company said in a statement on Sunday.
Provisional stop for production by the company places the supply chain continuity at risk during the peak season for electronic goods including the latest iPhone.
ESON Precision Engineering, Affiliate Foxconn, said it suspended its production from Sunday to Friday at its facilities in Kunshan China, Nikkei reported earlier.
Supplier of iPhone speaker component components, which have manufacturing facilities in the city of China Suzhou, said it would suspend production for five days to Thursday and take advantage of its inventory to support demand.
China’s crunch power, which is caused by strict coal inventories and hardening emission standards, has triggered contractions in the heavy industry in several regions and dragged at the country’s economic growth rate, analysts said.
