Rajkot: Amreli, one of the districts worst affected by cyclone Tauktae, is gradually coming out of darkness. With electricity infrastructure seriously hit by the cyclone, electrical supply to all of the villages of this district has been cut. The power department is operating on war footing and technical labourers were flown directly by Bihar and West Bengal so that electricity supply could be restored in the earliest.According to officers, power has been restored in rural and urban regions of Amreli, Lathi, Babra, Liliya and Vadiya on Monday. Even the Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL) officials stated that power supply is going to be revived by Bagasara and Dhari talukas from Tuesday. The PGVCL staff is currently working to restore energy distribution from the worst-affected talukas such as Rajula, Jafrabad, Savarkundla and Khambha. It’s anticipated that the energy source to the rural and urban regions of the talukas will soon be restored from Friday. It’s projected that the discom endured losses to the tune of Rs 200 crore at Amreli district. Complete 76 sub-stations of 66 kV, each valued at Rs 2.50 crore were ruined throughout the cyclone. Additionally, 34 towers, every of which will be valued at Rs 10 lakh, were uprooted because of the powerful winds. Aside from these, 65,000 electricity sticks and 600 transformers also have ruined as a result of cyclone. It required the power department three times to restore power distribution in seven metropolitan locations. The teams of different discoms such as DGVCL, MGVCL, torrent electricity and UGVCL were also deputed at Saurashtra to revive electricity distribution in cyclone affected regions.
