Luxembourg Xavier’s Prime Minister Bettel was serious but stable after the Covid-19 contract and will remain in the hospital, for now, said the government on Monday.
When Bettel was hospitalized on Sunday due to persistent symptoms, inadequate oxygen saturation was diagnosed, according to a statement by the State Ministry.
“Prime minister’s medical conditions are currently considered serious, but stable,” the ministry said.
“Therefore, medical staff who take care of the Prime Minister have decided that hospitalization is still needed at this time for the estimated period of 2-4 days to continue observations.” Bettel will continue to coordinate government work and fulfill its duties from a distance, the statement is added.
Bettel, 48, was tested positively shortly after the two-day UE summit in Brussels at the end of June, where participants included French President Emmanuel Macron, Chancellor Germany Angela Merkel, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, and other European leaders.
