Barcelona: People took to the streets of Spain’s biggest city on Monday night to express their anger at the death of a man in an alleged Homophobic attack on weekends.
The crowd filled the square and Madrid activists marched on the main road in Barcelona, ​​slogan songs and stripping placards and a rainbow flag.
“The response to the LGBT-Fobia hatred wave that ended Samuel’s life in the extraordinary Coruna,” the left-wing podemos party governing in the coalition with the ruling socialists wrote on Twitter.
The 24-year-old nursing assistant was beaten near the nightclub during the early hours of Saturday in the city of Coruna, North Spain, by several attackers including people who shouted the demeaning description of a homosexual, RTve state broadcaster reported.
He then died at the hospital.
Jose Night, representatives of local governments in the area where Coruna is located, tweeted that the police worked to find out what had happened and to bring the perpetrators of justice.
The local media quoted it said the investigation would show whether the attack was motivated by homophobia.
Domestic ministry data showed 278 racial crimes related to sexual orientation or gender identity was reported in Spain in 2019, an increase of 8.6% in the previous year.
The European Union Agency for fundamental rights only warned a small portion of the racial crime reported to the police.
In Central Barcelona, ​​Sergio Cuevas 21 years old said, “I think this crime occurs because homophobia kills.”
