Pune: A man, who uses his smartphone video camera to film six men who robbed a truck driver container, ended with a broken leg after being seen, chased and attacked by people on Sunday night in Chikhali.
The gang also robbed RS1,800 cash from the victim.
The police said they arrested a 20-year-old gang member from Chikhali and the search on the other five.
Rohit Shinde’s victim from Rupinagar in Talawad made his left foot broke when one of the suspects attacked him with an iron rod.
Shinde is undergoing treatment at the hospital in Chikhali.
“After receiving his complaint on Monday, we arrested the suspect Naushad Shah (20),” said Sub-Inspector of Police (PSI) SP Deshmukh from Chikhali police.
Deshmukh said at around 11:15 a.m.
on Sunday night, Shinde and his friend Bibhishan Bandgar was on his way to the gas station to recharge the motor fuel tank.
“On the road Dehu-aandi, Shinde noticed that the six young men would forcefully stopped a container truck, abusing the driver and tried to seize him,” he told TI.
Shinde immediately took out his smartphone and began recording it.
“One of the young men pays attention to this and warns his hands.
They then approached Shinde and tried to seize his smartphone.
When Shinde refused, the suspects beat him with their hands and feet and robbed him,” said Psi.
To save himself, Shinde began to run away, but the gang gave him a pursuit.
“One of them crashed into Shinde’s left foot with an iron rod and also beat his friend,” Deshmukh added.
The police have confirmed the identity of all suspects.
The case below section 395 (Dakoitas) from the Indian Criminal Code (IPC) has been registered against them.
“One of them is a criminal on the police record.
We will soon arrest them,” Dishmukh said.
