Salem: Water will be released from the two channels attached to Mettur Dam on August 1 for irrigation purposes in Salem, namakkal and scrape the district.
Additional Secretary of the Public Works (PWD) said the state government had directed them to open the canal gate starting August 1 to December 15, 2021.
“Based on demand from farmers, the government on Saturday ordered PWD officials to open the eastern and western edge canal window for 137 Day, “he said.
Water will be removed from the dam in three stages, on request, he said.
The official said that almost 45,000 hectares of land would benefit from the release of water.
