Coimbatore: Residents of the Ramakrishna layout in Chan Ma Nagar have urged City Corporation officials to take a plot of land intended as an open space (OSR) of a shrimp.
Layout was approved by the City Directorate and State Planning (DTCP) in 1990 after 10%, namely 36 cents, shown as OSR.
Meanwhile, landowners created a separate layout for a plot of land that violated the rules and received approval from City Corporation three years ago.
M Suresh, a resident, said he bought a housing plot in 1998 in his mother’s name.
“I recently learned that there was a land of OSR and dug deeper to get an old land record.
I was surprised to learn that the owner created the layout for Land OSR with a different name and tried to sell it.
I came to know through newspapers about steps Steps taken by the Civic body recently to take land OSR.
Officials must help us too, “he said.
“The owner built a house on two cents and got Rs 7,000 rent from him.
The rest of the land will be lost if the Civic body does not act,” Suresh added.
This area is being developed at a fast speed and soon there will be no empty space left, said Sathish Kumar, another resident.
“We want to use OSR land for recreational purposes.
Our children will not have a playground if the land is taken from us.” Some OSR plots throughout the city have been seized by the promoter and landowner, said activist S p Thiyagarajan.
“In many cases, they get approval from local bodies after showing it as a new layout.
Civic’s body can take criminal acts of such people and take land,” he said.
An official with the city planning wing Coimbatore Corporation told TI that a team would check the place on Monday.
“Actions will be taken to take the earliest OSR land,” he added.
