WASHINGTON: A Republic of Parliament member called for the Biden government to provide communication between the White House and the Ministry of Justice, after the release approached the top executive in China Huawei and two Canadians held by Beijing asking political questions in Washington.
On Friday, Huawei’s head of Finance Meng Wanzhou flew back to China from Canada after reaching an agreement with the US prosecutor to end the bank fraud case against it, the point of tension between China and the United States.
Within a few hours from the news of the agreement, the two Canadians who were arrested shortly after Meng were held to be released from Chinese prisons and were on their way back to Canada.
On Monday, the White House denied that the movement was a prisoner swap, with Press Secretary Jen PSaki, instead of describing the agreement of Meng as an act of an independent action by the Ministry of Justice.
But on Tuesday, US representative Jim Bank sent a letter to the Attorney General Merrick Garland asking all communication between the White House department, state and judicial since President Joe Biden served, raising questions in the case of Meng.
“You tell the Senate Justice Committee that you will protect the integrity of the Ministry of Justice from political influence,” he wrote.
“But this sequence made me wonder whether the White House and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs disturbed this prosecution case.
The extent to which the decision to let Meng GO influence politics?” The Ministry of Justice does not immediately respond to a request for a comment.
