Rhine River is partly closed in Germany for flood shipping

Hamburg: The Rhine River in South Germany remained closed for delivery on Monday after rising at the water level after heavy rains recently, the German authorities said.
South Rhine rose last week after recording rainfall and floods that have killed at least 157 people, the worst natural disaster of Germany in almost six decades.
The shipping of the Rhine River still stops around Maxau and Speyer in South Germany, said the Waterways Inland German Navigation Agency.
High water levels make bait under the bridge impossible and prevent ship sailing to Switzerland.
However, the weather was dry over the weekend and on Monday morning it caused the fall of the surface of the water, allowing delivery in the northern sector of the river from Mannheim to Duisburg to operate normally, the agency said.
Rhine is an important delivery route for commodities including minerals, coal and oil products such as heating oil, grains and animal feed.
The southern part of the river is not expected to be opened until the end of this week, the Environmental Agency in the southern state of Baden-Wuerttemberg said.
