Moscow: Russia has recorded a large number of new daily Coronavirus cases because most of the country’s business remained closed in an effort to fight a surge in infection for weeks.
The National Coronavirus Task Force on Sunday reported 40,993 new infections the previous day, up more than 700 on the previous record the previous day.
Russia has calculated a record of new infections or death almost every day during October.
The toll of death reported Sunday was 1,158, just slightly dropped from a record Friday 1,163.
It brought official Covid-19 Russian death counting 238,538, so far the biggest in Europe.
More than 8.51 million infections have been recorded in the 146 million countries during a pandemic.
The task force only calculates death caused by a virus.
Rosstat State Statistics Service, which calculates Covid-19 death with wider criteria, releases Friday figures showing a much higher amount.
Rosstat counts 44,265 deaths in September is caused directly by the virus, or where it is a contributing cause or patient believed to have been infected.
It will bring the death toll of Russia’s long pandemic to around 461,000 at the end of September, almost double the number of task forces.
To load the spread of infection, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a period that did not work from October 30 to November 7, where most government institutions and private business would suspend surgery.
Moscow introduced the size of Thursday, turning off kindergartens, schools, fitness centers, entertainment venues, and most stores, and limiting restaurants to take home or shipping.
Food stores, pharmacies and companies that operate key infrastructure remain open.
Access to museums, theaters, concert halls and other places in Russia are limited to people who hold digital code on their cellphones to prove that they have been vaccinated or recovered from Covid-19, a practice that will continue after November 7 than 60 has been ordered to stay at home.
