Moscow: The Russian government on Saturday reported a number of new Coronavirus cases after the Kremlin warned a wave that loomed in cases driven by Omicron variants.
The online portal dedicated to the Coronavirus outbreak registered 57,212 new daily cases, beyond the previous record set Friday 49,513.
After a strict but brief national locking at the beginning of the Pandemic, Russia had resisted restrictions that hoped to protect the economy that was struggling.
Russian President Vladimir Putin warned last week that the country needs to be ready for waves driven by Omicron, calling for more testing and vaccination.
In the capital Moscow – episentase of virus outbreaks in Russia – there is a record of 16,094 new cases.
Some vaccines developed in Russia have been freely available for months but only about half of the countries that are completely not inoculated due to expanding vaccine skepticism.
Putin previously said that the leading Russian V sputnik vaccine could be “more effective” than the Westerned Jab.
Russian government figures showed 325,433 deaths from Covid-19 since the start of Pandemi – the highest victim in Europe.
These numbers contrary to the Rosstat State Statistics Agency, which calculates Covid death with a wider definition and says death is around double the official figure.
Globally, Russia has a number of fatalities related to the fourth virus, according to AFP calculations, after the United States, Brazil and India.
