Moscow: The Russian government on Saturday reported a number of new Coronavirus cases after the Kremlin warned a wave that loomed in cases driven by Omicron variants.
The online portal dedicated to the Coronavirus outbreak registered 57,212 new daily cases, beyond the previous record set Friday 49,513.
After a strict but brief national locking at the beginning of the Pandemic, Russia had resisted restrictions that hoped to protect the economy that was struggling.
Russian President Vladimir Putin warned last week that the country needs to be ready for waves driven by Omicron, calling for more testing and vaccination.

Globally, Russia has a number of fatalities related to the fourth virus, according to AFP calculations, after the United States, Brazil and India.
