Salem: Salem district registered the first Omicron case with a 28-year-old woman from Mullai Nagar in the city who tested the infection on Thursday.
He has been treated in the Omicron Special Ward in the Salem Government of Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital (SGMKMCH) for treatment.
The doctors said that his condition was stable.
The woman worked as a software engineer in the US.
The Ministry of Health Personnel at Chennai International Airport collected a swab sample from him when he returned on December 13.
They save it in Chennai for four days in isolation even though the test results change negatively for Coronavirus novels.
“However, the Ministry of Health once again collected a swab sample from him on December 17 and allowed him to proceed to Salem,” said Collector S Karmegam.
He came to Salem in the ambulance and isolated himself at his home until Thursday morning (December 23), when the Ministry of Health confirmed that he had tested Omicron’s positive.
He was immediately treated in the Omicron Special Ward in SGMKMCH.
Meanwhile, someone from New Zealand to the city was treated at a private hospital on Thursday.
