Karachi: Former Saqlain Mushtaq Spinner is likely to continue as Pakistani head coach for the upcoming house series against Australia in March-April.
Saqlain’s future with the team was under the shadows recently when he resigned as head coach of the development of international players in the center of high-performance while the mastery of his interim as coach of the national team also ended with a tour to Bangladesh.
Reliable source on the Pakistani Cricket board (PCB) said that SAQLain would most likely continue as head coaches for the Australian series.
“He will be asked to continue as a temporary coach until the PCB makes the last call about who will become a permanent coach of the national team after the Australian series,” said the source.
The source added that the Chairperson of the PCB, Ramiz King had spoken with SAQLain about the Australian series and former spinners likely also to get a salary increase as head coach.
“SAQLain is reluctant to continue working with PCB for some payment disputes but it seems important it is now resolved.
SAQLain basically asks for a close salary to what other people get,” said the source.
Saqlain was taken as a temporary head coach for the series of houses against New Zealand and England last year who did not transpire but then guided the team to the World T20 Cup semi-final in the UAE and also tour Bangladesh winners where Pakistan won all the tests and T20 fits.
Saqlain was appointed as a temporary coach while working as head coach at the high-performance center after Misbah-ul-Haq seemed to be asked to retreat after returning from the West Indies tour in September.
The source said the PCB had advertised different coaching positions but until now it did not shorten candidates, which have registered, also does not set the time for interviews and the entire process tend to be resolved after the Australian series.
