Saudi Court Jails Man for 15 years to ‘Promote Atheism’: Report

Dubai: Human Rights Watch said on Monday the Saudi Court had sentenced a Yemeni men for up to 15 years for apostasy, urging the kingdom to prioritize the homes of modernization.
The rights group said that Ali Abu Luhum, 38, had been accused of making a comment “through two anonymous Twitter accounts”, which was debated by the prosecution registered with a telephone number that was linked to him.
“The court found that the tweet promoted ‘apostasy, distrust, and atheism,” HRW said, reporting the trial was held without defense witnesses.
The cost of Luhum Abu includes “the rejection of God’s existence” which is reported and the issuance of content that is “public order prejudice, religious values, and public morals on social media,” HRW said.
Abu Luhum said was found guilty of “promoting atheism” and sentenced to “15 years in prison for apostasy”, but did not provide further details about what he accused.
There is no direct response from Riyadh.
