Hyderabad: After detecting three cases of Omicron from only 200 randomized international passenger samples at Hyderabad Airport, the Telangana Government has shot a letter requesting the center to allow testing for all international passengers.
The fact that the three cases were detected in Telangana, including someone moving in domestic flights, and had traveled from the Non-Risk Destinations of West Asian – Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Doha, showing that many cases might be under the radar.
, said health officials.
“We have tested nearly 6000 samples from 11 high-risk countries that landed at Hyderabad airports where we only found three positive RT-PCR but not one person detected as a positive omicron.
On the other hand, we found three during random sampling only 200 Passengers, “said Dr.
G Srinivasa Rao, Director (Public Health) Telangana.
“Therefore, we cannot label countries as high-risk countries and only screen passengers coming from these countries.
We have asked the center to enforce the same norms for all countries,” he added.
The omicron ruling level of less than two days in India and high transmission is the cause of worries, he said.
Health officials also confirmed that the three passengers who detected positive omicrons in Telangana did not show symptoms, which only meant that the threat of spread was high.
