Bhubaneswar: VK Pandian, Secretary of the Head of the Minister of Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday visited the Puri Stadium project site to oversee the progress of the work and directed to accelerate the initial work.
When the Holy City of Puri has a strong culture of Akhadas and there is a lot of scope for sports development such as wrestling, weightlifting, body building, yoga, gymnastics and boxing, Pandian asks officials to explore Akhadas support for sports development.
He also directed that housing cricket academies and wrestling academies were established in the new sports complex.
The development of sports infrastructure in Puri is part of RS 3,208 Crore Abada (augmentation of basic facilities and legacy and architecture development) which aims to change the castle into a world-class heritage city.
The new sports complex is being built with the overall budget of Rs 40 Crore.
This complex will mainly have a cricket stadium with practice nets and other facilities that will allow the organizers of the first grade cricket match including the trophy of Ranji.
This complex will also have a 50-m swimming pool, multi-use indoor hall with facilities for boxing, wrestling, table tennis and gymnasium and 100 seats sports hostel.
