Panaji: In the Elementary School of the Government, Karaswada, palm leaves are woven into a form of voters who are welcomed by a large day on Monday – voting day, which also occurs on Valentine’s Day.
Karaswada Polling Station, on this election day, is one of ten in various parts of the country designed as a green polling station.
At this eco-friendly station, not only decorations are made entirely from biodegradable materials, but it is made by traditional craftsmen who are put together from the Cave interior.
The dry rice tangle hanging on the door of the polling room to the bamboo basket for BLO to bring the material related to the election, the voter sees an environmentally friendly avatar from the voting training at ten booths for the first time in Goa.
Each green voting station has a uniquely designed decoration, with some also showing down environmentally friendly selfie points.
The main election election team hand in hand with the Country Biodiversity Council (GSBB) to complete this environmentally friendly craft, and officials now hope to increase the number of booths for the next poll.
“Instead of carpets made of synthetic material, the coir mat is used.
Clay jugs and cups are also provided for Stan Polling staff.
After the election, we will also do skilled green workshops, so we are ready to provide 50 to 100 green booths with selection Next, “said Secretary of the GSBB member Pradip Sarmokadam.
While bamboo trays and trash cans have been obtained from the state government handicraft outlet, the rest of the decoration is a special handmade for voting days by local craftsmen.
Navaso Harijan from Keri, Sattari, Suryakant Gaonkar from Honda, Ramkrishna Gaude Family from Keri, Ponda, and Dattaprasad Prabhugaonkar from Loliem, Canacona, is one of the main craftsmen to help prepare green voting stations.
Two voting stations in Panaji and each in Bicholim, Mapapaa, Karaswada, Valpoi, Ponda, Cortalim, Fataorda, Canacona received green makeovers.
“Together with me, my wife Rashmi, the daughter of Rupita and Shambu’s brother handed the responsibility to prepare eight green voting stations.
We need about two full days to make one booth.
I have been into the business making environmentally friendly decorations for weddings and yarn ceremonies , so we have the skills for that, “said Gaude.
“There are so many different ways in which we can weave coconut leaves and there are no limited possibilities in creating green decorations like that.
If this possibility is explored, no need to use a thermocol and other non-biodegradable materials.” The craftsmen said that if it was confirmed that all Government events utilize environmentally friendly decorations, only then sectors can produce work for rural youth.
“To ensure security at the green voting station because of the nature of the material, we have also provided fire extinguishers,” said Sarmokadam.
Meanwhile, voters say they want to see more green in their polling booths.
“It was a good start.
We can do with more decorations like that,” said the Mukesh Dias voter at Dona Paula’s green polling booth.
