Vadodara: The Covid-19 pandemic brought a disaster in the entire state of last year to Salahuddin Sheikh it was an opportunity to wash hawala money.
Sheikh, who was accused of racquets of religious conversion, allegedly using global pandemics to divert illegal funds and donations they obtained.
Police officers said that Sheikh made costs associated with social work during Covid’s pandemic.
“He made a document to show the costs of buying a ration kit, a medical kit and other things for the poor and need during Covid.
Trust and organization that he is part of it has shown that the kit is distributed in various cities of the country,” said a senior official police.
A Vadodara police team recently visited Bhuj to investigate Sheikh’s relationship with certain people there.
Sheikh was accused of using hawala funds to build mosques at the Town Kitch District Headquarter and other parts of the country.
“The people we ask there said that Sheikh transferred their money to distribute food and other ration kits.
One of them has a preliminary store,” police added.
The official said that Sheikh also started last year’s medical center to treat covid patients.
“Initial investigations revealed that even the center was used to wash the money he got from Hawala and through donations other than AFMI Trust,” he added.
A police team camped at Uttar Pradesh for the past few days to get Sheikh’s custody and Umar Gautam.
“The top police have added several parts in fir against the duo and therefore they interrogated the defendant again.
We will soon get their custody and take them to the city.
Sheikh’s interrogation will reveal his link in Bharuch and Bhuj,” the police said.
Sheikh and Umar were accused of funding conversion activities throughout the country.
The police said that Sheikh received nearly 60 crore rs through Hawala and Rs 19 Crore with donations for his trust over the past five years.
Sheikh was accused of using this money to build a mosque, fund conversion activities and provide the defendant’s legal fees in the anti-caa protest and Delhi riots.
