Vadodara: The school run by Salahuddin Sheikh, a defendant at the Hawala racket and religious conversion activities, also under the city police scanner.
The police who investigated the case claimed that Sheikh also washed a lot of cash using school in the Chhota Udepur, where he was a trustee, as the front.
“Initial investigations have revealed that Sheikh also used his position at school to wash money.
He got a large number of Hawala in the last five years and some were flowed using this school as the front,” said a senior police official.
The police are also investigating if conversion activities are carried out by him at school.
The researchers said AFMI Trust carried out by Sheikh received Rs 19 Crores towards contributions from 14 different institutions and trust located in various countries.
Among other things, beliefs received Rs 7.43 Crores from Gujarati Muslim Association (USA), RS 33 Lakh from Kareem Pathhan, USA, RS 1.20 Crores from Global Retail Fashion (US), RS 2.05 Crores from Majise Alfala Trust Based in England and RS 32.11 Lakh from Firdaus Foundation in England.
Police said Sheikh received around Rs 60 Crores from Dubai by Hawala and it was directed to various countries to build a mosque.
“The money was also used to sponsor the legal fees of the people who were arrested in the anti-CAA protest and Delhi riots,” police said.
Special Operations Group (SOG) has arrested Mohammed Hussain Gulam Rasool Ansari, an AFMI employee trust to destroy the drive pen that has evidence of trust transactions.
He has been returned to the five-day police custody.
Police said that Ansari’s interrogation would reveal trust activities.
Sheikh and other shared gautam Umar are expected to be taken from Uttar Pradesh to the city in the next few days.
