Chennai: Sample tests at least six more patients, allegedly carrying Omicron variants, sent by Tamil Nadu to all Laboratories of the genome sequence in Chennai, Bengaluru and Pune on Thursday.
A 38-year-old woman, who returned to India on December 12 from the Congo Republic through Chennai, was tested positive for Covid-19 in his hometown in the Tiruvannamalai district two days later, a health official said on Thursday.
During the RPCR test, scientists pay attention to the S-Gen Dropout – an indicator that can be carried by the Omicron variant.
He was treated at the Government Medical College Hospital in Tiruvannamalai, and his health condition was stable, said Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan.
At night, four contacts of the patient’s family Covid-19, who took DOHA flights to Chennai, were tested positive for Covid-19.
With this, at least two passengers traveling with flights and their 10 contacts have been positively tested for viral infections so far.
The Public Health Department said there was dropout in all patients who tested positive.
The 47-year-old passenger, who returned from Nigeria through Doha, was tested positive at the airport on December 10.
Five days later, the National Institute of Virology confirmed that he brought the Omicron variant.
Genome test reports from all other patients are still awaited.
“We have notified all passengers on flights to contact health authorities or seek medical attention even if they have mild symptoms,” said Radhakrishnan.
In addition, other patients, who traveled from South Africa, were tested positive eight days after he traveled.
Because South Africa is registered as a risky country, patients are allowed to leave the airport only after they test negative.
RPCR repeatedly carried out eight days later.
While officials have not confirmed if they suspect the omicron variant, patients have been isolated for care at the Covid Government Hospital in Guindy.
The test sample was also sent to the Genome Laboratory.
The state health staff and infectious disease experts now ask the state to expand the list of “risky” countries or make mandatory testing for all international passengers.
“The state must create separate facilities for passengers so that there is no further community that spreads,” said a senior government doctor.
“Passengers traveling from other countries are not mandated to wait at the airport until the results of entry.
While we track and test the closest contact, this can be a complex if we continue passengers without a negative RPCR report,” he said.
