MADRID: Enklave North Africa Spain from Ceuta on Friday began sending 800 migrant children who were not accompanied to Morocco three months after they arrived at Mass, an official said.
The minors were among up to 10,000 migrants who flooded the land border to Ceuta for several days in May when the Moroccan border guard stood beside.
It is widely seen as retaliation for the decision of Spain to host Brahim Ghali, leader of the Polisario Front, a movement that demands Western Sahara become independent of Morocco, for medical care.
Local Daily El Faro de Ceuta published a picture of an underage child who was escorted by the police to the Moroccan border on Friday.
Contacted by AFP, the source at the Central Government Representative Office in Ceuta, which refused to be named, confirming the eviction began.
According to Cadena Ser Radio, the Interior Ministry ordered this on August 10.
NGOs save children say will file a complaint to try and hold it back.
After the complaint is submitted, the decision to resend small migrants takes time, because each case must be evaluated separately.
Many migrants were returned to Morocco as soon as they arrived in May.
But at the end of July, around 2,500 remained in Ceuta, according to local leader Juan Rivas.
