MADRID: Chef Jose Andres and the middle world of the world is awarded a prestigious Spanish prize Wednesday for their international assistance work that promotes healthy food.
The jury who decided the daughter of the Asturias Awards gave the 51st Andres of the year and the non-profit group he founded the Concord award to “offer a remarkable response and efficiently efficient on social emergency and nutrition.” Born in North Spain in 1969, Andres moved to the United States in 1991 and was later naturalized as an American citizen.
He helped popularize Spanish cuisine, especially Tapa, in the US before he also became very involved in humanitarian work.
Andres set up World Central Kitchen in 2010 after a trip to Haiti to do assistance work.
Since then, it has been active in the field kitchen which deploys to respond to the food crisis both in the United States and abroad.
This organization served more than 3.6 million food in Puerto Rico after Storm Maria in 2017.
Last year, Andres dedicated several of its own restaurants in the US to help feed people in need during the Coronavirus pandemic.
The recipients of many awards, Andres was awarded the National Humanities Medal by President Obama in 2015.
Daughter 50,000 Euros ($ 56,700) Asturias Concord award was one of eight prizes, including for art, social science, and sports, shared every year by a foundation named for Leonor’s Spanish crown daughter.
