SPL Police squad to prevent theft at the Puri Temple

Bhubaneswar: The police have formed a special squad to prevent the theft in the Jagannath temple.
This step occurred amid heavy footsteps on the 12th century temple, which gave Coppocket the opportunity to steal cellphones, wallets and other small articles from visitors.
The source said at least 30 cases like it was reported there in the last three months.
Puri SP Kanwar Vishal Singh said several Coppocket was arrested last month.
“We have not received a single pickpocket case from the temple this month.
Special forces, wearing ordinary clothes, have been deployed in a strategic location, especially in places that witness in a hurry.
CCTV camera footage is being monitored regularly,” Singh said.
Police said at least five tourists received missing articles at the temple this month.
“We have established tents outside the main entrance of the temple to provide assistance needed for worshipers in trouble.
While we have received positive feedback from worshipers, we also work on their advice,” Singh said.
Police officers have also been asked to ensure the protection of worshipers.
On October 9, a priest of the Bamana Temple, a subsidiary in the place of Jagannath Temple, was arrested for allegedly persecuting a little girl from Hyderabad in the temple the day before.
After this incident, the child’s welfare committee has requested the gift of the temple to take steps to prevent the violation.
On December 10, Laxmi Narayan Khuntia, a Temple of Dewi Laxmi, another sub-temple, was arrested on charges of sexually sexual attackers in the temple.
