Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has announced a special drive of vaccination for a week for students who qualify on their campuses.
Drive – Mission Yuva Swastth Abhiyaan – which has been held jointly by the Ministry of Health with the Department of Higher Education and Technical will be carried out between October 25-2.
Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that there were around 5000 universities underneath.
And the Department of Technical Education that includes Polytechnic, Iti and other affiliate institutions as well and there are nearly 40 lakh 18+ students enrolled in this college.
“We have asked all school principals to provide a list of students who have not been vaccinated.
This department is expected to compile the list and notify the health department how many doses will be needed to drive,” Tope said.
This is a second special drive organized by the state.
The state has held a Kavach Kundal mission with the aim of vaccinating 15 people every day before Dusshera, but the drive does not meet many responses and only 50 percent of the target is achieved.
In addition to helping with data, colleges must also provide three rooms to drive vaccination and create awareness among students about the importance of vaccination.
Tope said the Ministry of Health will provide all universities with medical equipment, ambulance, medical staff and vaccines.
“After the drive is complete, we will also facilitate three colleges that do the best,” Tope said.
Tope said that Maharashtra has covered 70 percent of its population which qualifies with the first dose and by including a large number of student populations, they will increase their coverage and also ensure that the mobile age group is the most vaccinated.
