New Delhi: A 30-year-old married woman was attacked with a knife when she opposed the progress of acquaintances allegedly stalking and pressing it to marry her, police said on Thursday.
The defendant, Sushil aka Ponta (21), a resident of Wazirabad, was arrested in connection with the incident, they said.
The police said the defendant had harassed the woman for a certain period of time and also hurt him in the past when he rejected his progress, but he had never approached the police.
The incident took place in the Region of Nehru Vihar Timarpur in North Delhi on Tuesday.
According to the police, the woman went to drop her two children for their college class at Nehru Vihar.
While he returned, the allegations of bicycles were accused of intercepting him and threatened him to come with him to the nearest area.
Worried about the consequences, he accompanied the man to a quiet place.
He then attacked him with a knife on his neck, said a senior police officer.
When he raised the alarm, the defendant escaped on his motorbike and also took his cellphone so he did not immediately approach the police, he said.
When he shouted for help, the police team patrolled the area reached the place, he added.
The woman was immediately taken to the hospital by the team and she was dismissed on the same day after treatment, the officer said.
In his statement, he alleged that the defendant had often harassed him and forced him to marry him, police said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi said, “Based on the victim’s statement, a case was registered in the IPC 307 (attempt to murder), 379 (penalty for theft), 354 D (stalking) and 506 (punishment) criminal intimidation) at The Timarpur police station and investigation were taken.
“A team was formed under the supervision of ACP Timarpur Swagat Patil along with Sho Timarpur, Tribhuvan Negi for guidance.
The team consisting of the Yogender Sub Inspector, Constable Head of Narayanpati and Swan Constable was formed because of arresting the defendant, police said.
Acting on tip-off, Sushil was arrested from Gopalpur on Wednesday, they said.
The defendant told the police that he knew the woman and made friends with him, but for the past few months, he ignored him.
He said his behavior made him angry and he attacked him, police said.
The police said they had managed to recover stolen cellphones along with motorbikes accused.
