Thane: A 24-year-old student from the city and pursued a higher study at Dublin University in Ireland lost Rs 5.3 lakh to fraudsters who deceived him to transfer money from his account with a private bank in the Locapuram to be safe hackers.
A police officer said the mother of the victim filed a complaint, said her son went to Ireland on September 2 and based in Dublin.
“On September 23, he got a call from Cheat Cheat.
The caller identified himself as a government officer from Ireland.
He told the victim that he had visited several unpleasant websites that were banned in the US and after that the hackers were aware of the same thing.
He said the hackers would then hack into their bank accounts and suck the bank balance, “said Pravin Survade, an investigative officer from the Chitsar police station.
The officer said the caller asked the victim to make certain entries in the system to transfer money in the bank account in Thane, add the receiver payment and transfer money to protect.
The victim was as told and then realized Hospital 5.3 lakh had been moved from his bank account.
He told his mother, with whom he had a shared account.
The officer said the initial investigation had revealed that the money had been transferred to a bank account in India.
Violations registered in Section 3 (provisions for violations committed outside India but can be tried in India), Part 4 (IPC operation on actions taken outside India), Section 419 (cheating on personation) and part 420 (cheating)) from IPC, and parts 66C and parts 66D from the IT Law.
