Cairo: Five intelligence officers were killed in a shootout on Tuesday with alleged guerrillas in Islamic countries in the capital Sudan Khartoum, said the authorities.
The General Intelligence Agency said in a statement whose alleged militants opened fire on the power that raided their hiding in the Gabra neighborhood in South Khartoum.
It was said five dead and an officer was also injured in the attack.
Gia said the troops arrested 11 alleged militants and pursued four other people who managed to escape during the shootout.
The statement said the suspects were foreigners but did not reveal their citizenship or further details.
Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok lamented the death of five officers.
Violence Tuesday came a week after the authorities said they were thwarting a coup attempt which since increased tensions between generals and civilians in the transitional government.
The development underlined the fragility of Jalan Sudan to democracy, more than two years after the overthrow of the Old Autocrat Military Omar al-Bashir amid a public rebellion on the government of three decades.
Militant attacks rarely occurred in Sudan, a country who hosted Osama bin Laden in the early years of his jihad movement which led to the creation of al-Qaeda.
The East African country is on the list of countries that support terrorism until December.
In March last year, Hamdok said he survived “terror attacks” after the explosion and shot targeting his convoy in Khartoum.
