New Delhi: The government on Tuesday approved financial expenditure of more than Rs 4 Lakh Crore for two main programs for urban areas to make cleaning cities, waste free and provide 100% access to clean drinking water in the next five years.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Program – Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0 and Amrut 2.0 – On October 1 1.
One of the main push sBM (U) 2.0 will be a remediation of all legacy dumps to free 14,000 hectares of locked ground lying under 15 crore tons Waste inheritance.
According to official releases, SMB 2.0 will focus on the sustainability of the results of free defecation (ODF), achieving solid waste scientific processing and managing waste water in cities with less than one lakh population.
It was said that the cabinet had approved financial expenses around Rs 1.42 lakh crore, which was 2.5 times more than expenses made for the first phase of the mission.
The central part in this scheme will be RS 36,465 Crore.
Outlay Amrut 2.0 is Rs 2.77 lakh Crore, which aims to make the city ‘water safe’ and ‘sustainable themselves’ through a circular water economy.
For reliable and affordable water supply and sanitation services, this scheme plans to provide functional tap connections to all households.
It will also include conservation / augmentation of water sources, rejuvenation of water and wells, recycling / reuse of water harvesting and rainwater processed.
