Chennai: The government has intensified the crackdown on foot on the bus in the city.
On the one hand, the police have ordered a case against offending students and on the other hand, the transportation department has warned the bus conductor and driver, which allows threats to continue.
The crew has been instructed to stop the bus on the side of the road and call the police if students refuse to listen to their requests.
The transportation union has condemned this step.
“It is unfair to punish us for students’ mistakes and police, who have stopped doing frequent inspections,” said RM Swamy from SVS-AAP Union, who insisted on the need to increase the frequency of the bus during rush hour.
“Students deliberately do not take the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) bus, which has automatic doors.
Nearly 50% of the MTC bus, is operated as an ordinary service, does not have a door.
The corporation must replace this old bus or repair the door immediately,” he said.
Nine students from Pachaiyappa’s College, traveling by foot bus on the government bus in the suburbs, were booked to have weapons on Tuesday.
They carry a two-leg machete.
These students featured the action on the bus to Meyyur in the Tethuvallur district.
Their parents were called to the police station and warned about the consequences if their ward continued this behavior.
Then, they were left behind.
The special team has been formed by the Thiruvallur police to identify students involved in the culture of ‘Thala’ routes such as those causing gang competition.
They have launched the WHATSAPP complaint number (6379904848) where people can complain about such problems along with photos and videos.
But Helllings like that change dysfunctional after settling problems.
Last year, the city police launched Helpline (9087552233) for the public to complain about the problem.
But it’s non-functional now.
