Chennai: Tamil Nadu added 1,233 new Covid 19 cases on Saturday, a decline of 1,245 cases registered on Friday.
The 15 new deaths took cumulative victims to 35,884.
At the end of the day, 1,434 people were dismissed from the Covid-19 registry, leaving 15,022 active cases.
The total number of cases since March 2020 touched 26.85 lakh.
Chennai continued to add graphics with 160 new cases, compared to 167 on Friday, and Coimbatore followed with 136 new cases compared to 139 on Friday.
All other districts report below 100 new cases and seven others report cases in one digit.
With two new cases each, Virudhunagar and the Screen reports a little new infection.
Of the 15 deaths, four were in Chennai and two each in Salem, Tirupur and Trichy.
Coimbatore, Kancheepuram, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur and Tirunelveli report each one.
On Saturday, 67% of the qualified population had taken at least one vaccine dose and 25% had completed the course.
However, only 45% of the elderly who took one dose and one in five people (20%) had taken both doses.
“We encourage the elderly to get vaccinations.
They are among those who are susceptible to severe infections and death,” said Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan.
While 61% of 18-44-year-old people have taken the first dose, increasing to 74% in groups of 45 to 59 years.
Tally the second dose has touched 18% in groups of 38-44 years and 33% in category 44 to 59 years.
On Saturday, the state was vaccinated 2.13 lakh.
The country has so far provided a dose of 5.06 crores at the government’s vaccine center and 25.98 lakh personally.
Active cases fell below 600 in the case of Pondyerctive Covid-19 in the Union Puducherry area fell below 600 for the first time in almost six months on Saturday.
The region reported 48 new cases on Saturday even when 61 patients recovered, reducing active cases to 598.
UT did not report death for the third day in a row and the number remained at 1,843.
The authorities so far provide 10.69 lakh doses of anti-covid vaccines (including second dose).
