Bhubaneswar: The state government has initiated a tender process for rebuilding Konark Sun Temple and the surrounding area to turn it into a world-class tourism site.
Already on the Odisha Bridge and Construction Corporation (OBCC), which has floated worth 140 crores, said the tender will be completed at the end of February.
When the tender above Rs 100 Crore, it will be sent to the Cabinet for approval.
The cabinet was unlikely to meet until 28 February because the behavior model for Pancrayat elections would apply, said a senior government official.
While the tender is likely to be given in March, resources in the State Work Department, said that on the project it could begin in April.
In January last year, the state government has launched a design plan of the Konark Heritage Area Development Plan that aims to change infrastructure around the famous Sun Temple in Konark.
The rebuilding plan is based on four main aspects – celebrating the splendor of Sun Temple, enhancing visitor experience, aiming to improve the local business economy and strengthen the tourism-based economy.
The source said the tender was invited to the core area development plan which included an increase in the entrance of the temple, landscape, pedestrian and parking area development and open theater improvement.
