Test 3 police in George Floyd killed to continue after Covid stopped

Paul, Minn: Federal trial of three former Minneapolis police officer charged with violating the rights of George Floyd is expected to resume Monday after suddenly suspended last week because one of the defendants who tested positive for Covid-19.

Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao accused of depriving Floyd of their rights when they failed to give him medical assistance when Officer Derek Chauvin kneeling black man’s neck for 9 1/2 minutes while Floyd was handcuffed, his back and panting, and gasping for air.
Kueng and Thao also accused of failing to intervene in the murder in May 2020 that sparked protests around the world and re-examination of racism and police.
The trial, which is in the middle of the second week, was suspended Wednesday when Judge Paul Magnuson said one of the accused has tested positive.
The defendant was not named, but Kueng and Thao were in court that day and no lines.
Lawyers Lane declined to say whether his client has Covid-19.
“Participants of the trial” it will be tested again before the trial resumed, as did all the other cases participants who are close to him.
The court said Magnuson, and the judges are not considered as close contact as they are not within 6 feet of the counsel table.

The judge made an exception for himself, citing chronic lung conditions, and to witnesses testifying that their voices are not muffled.
Most of the other federal court in Minnesota was conducted by video or teleconference due to the pandemic, while a state court using a mixture of a procession of people and distance.
The testimony so far has come from the Government’s Witnesses, with defense lawyers are expected to call witnesses later.
Lane attorney said his client would testify, but it is not known if other officials would do.
Floyd, 46, struggled with officers when they tried to force him into a police vehicle and after they are placed on the ground.
Kueng Floyd knelt on his back, holding his leg and Thao Lane continues to backtrack.
Kueng, black, lines, white, and Thao, who is Hmong American, was charged with intentionally depriving Floyd of his constitutional rights while acting under the authority of the government.
One count against the three officers alleged that they saw that Floyd needs medical care and failed to help.
Counts against Thao and Kueng argue that they did not intervene to stop the Chauvin.
Both calculate alleges that the actions of officers resulted in the death of Floyd.
Chauvin convicted of murder and murder in the District Court last year and pleaded guilty to charges of federal civil rights.
He remained in prison.
Lane, Kueng and Thao also face trial separate state in June on charges alleging that they helped and dropping murder and murder.
All three had been free on bail since shortly after they were charged in June 2020.
