Thane: The city police arrested a 44-year-old man from Pondicherry for deceiving a widow-based RS16.8 Lakh under the pretext of marriage after contacting him from a fake account on the matrimonial site.
The police found that he had cheated a total of 26 widows throughout the country and collectively sucked RS2.5 Crore discounts from them.
The police said the Jogish Keje Prajit, with a alias Prajit Tayal Khalid and TK Prajit, from Mahi OdtaTry in Pondicherry, cheated women in Mumbai, Kerala, Bangalore and Kolkata.
According to the police, a widow who lives in the Dhokali region enrolled a case against the defendant, stated that he had contacted him through the Matrimonial site between October 2020 and December 11.
He promised to marry him and even involved in physical relationships with him.
“He also told him that he had a hotel in Paris he sold, but the results were detained with RBI.
He claimed that he really needed money and if he helped him, he would double his money,” said Vinay Rathod, DCP Zone-5.
He used the same modus operandi as other victims, police said.
He has been booked for rape and cheating.
