The blue economic potential report in Karnataka was released

Mangaluru: On the occasion of World Fisheries Day, and in line with the Nation’s Blue Economy Plan, the College of Fisheries (COF), which is entrusted with the task of conducting a quick assessment of the blue economy in Karnataka, releasing the report on the campus premise on Sunday.
Evaluation has identified various obstacles to tapping the full potential of blue resources, such as the lack of skills needed, policy disabilities, the adverse effects of various anthropogenic activities such as overexploitlan, overfishing, habitat destruction, urban development and pollution and industries that are not planned for climate change, which Pose a threat to resources and livelihoods that depend on them.
The report prepared with the financial assistance of the World Bank, was released with the presence of SB Venkatesh, Commander, Coast Guard, Karnataka, Additional Director, (land) Department of Fisheries, Dinesh, and Additional Directors (ports), Malpe Thippeswamy and other officials.
Dr A Senthil Vel, Professor and Dean (Fisheries), COF, said that under this assessment, various well-established blue economic sectors have been examined, and a short status paper and the outline of the blue economic plan summary has been prepared in consultation with various stakeholders, With the aim of developing an inclusive sustainable framework for increasing long-term economic growth, work and sustenance of livelihoods of our resources.
At present, the fisheries sector provides a livelihood of around 9.6 lakh fishermen, where 3.3 lakh is sea fishermen and 6.3 lakh is inland fishermen.
The report has suggested sustainable water-based tourism, and to form a four-level four-level four-level economic committee led by the minister’s chairman.
World fisheries day is celebrated every year on November 21, in honor of the hard work of the fishing community throughout the world, and their contributions in providing quality and nutritious food to large populations.
