Ranchi: from killing a man on the streets for violating the norms of locking to beat others to force him to confess theft, Jharkhand police have attracted eyeballs of civil rights groups.
Because higher officials failed to take any action against the wrong police, the People Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) has now been written to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) who seeks the intervention and direction to the police department.
The copy of the letter was also sent to the Secretary and Director General of Police.
The letter mentioned a series of police atrocities, who recently suspected of happening on September 15 when a Hawker, Sandeep Ram, was chosen by Jagannathpur police on charges of theft.
However, RAM was released from the police station due to lack of evidence on the condition to report there every day.
On the third day, he was brutally beaten for about three hours until he lost consciousness.
RAM was then taken to Doranda Hospital from where he was referred to the rim.
Secretary General PUCL, Arwind Avinash, said there was no action taken against officers responsible for violations of the norm.
In the previous incident on August 25, 2021, Sandeep Gupta was issued by the responsible Sukhdeonagar police station, Mamta Kumari, for marriage disputes.
According to Gupta, he was beaten by the police about complaints his wife while his four-year-old son stood testifying with the incident.
“The problem was taken by MP Ranchi Sanjay Sahay, who complained to the SSP but there was no action taken,” Avinash said.
He also mentioned the incident of Dhaneswar Mahto who had a heart attack in the excise department detention.
“Family members accused the authorities not to take him to the hospital despite complaining of discomfort,” Avinash said.
Pucl also sought the attention of the commission against the murder of Brahmadev Singh in the Laterhar District Piri Forest where the local police refused to submit a beating with his wife.
