LONDON: The British government may need to introduce a harder restriction to slow the growth of the Omicron variant and prevent a new surge in hospitalization and Covid-19 death, British scientist said Saturday.
British health officials said Omicron spread much faster than Delta’s tension and the possibility of replacing it and became the dominant variant in England in a few days.
The UK recorded 58,194 cases of viruses on Friday, the highest number since January, even though the portion of the Omicron variant was unclear.
Concerns about the new variant led by the PM of the Conservative Government Boris Johnson to re-introduce restrictions raised almost six months ago.
Masks must be worn in most of the indoor settings, the vaccine certificate must be displayed to enter the nightclub and people are urged to work from home if possible.
Many scientists say it’s impossible enough.
Modeling released on Saturday by scientists at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine suggested Omicron is likely to cause a wave of large infections in January, and can cause between 25,000 and 75,000 deaths in the UK in the next five months if there are no other steps taken.
The most pessimistic scenario predicts half a million people who are hospitalized with a virus at the end of April and said the receipt of daily hospitals can double the previous peak in January 2021.
Studies by scientists, who help advise the British government, have not pephered it.
reviewed.
The number of infections will depend on how many variants have escaped from the vaccine, and how effective shooting booster is strengthening immunity, both remain unclear.
Scientists in South Africa, where Omicron was first identified, said they saw those signs could cause diseases that were less severe than Delta, but be careful that it was too early.
“In our most optimistic scenario, the impact of Omicron at the beginning of 2022 will be reduced by light control measures such as working from home,” “said Rosanna Barnard from the school center for mathematical modeling of infectious diseases.
“However, our most pessimistic scenario shows that we may have to bear more stringent restrictions to ensure (health services) are not overwhelmed.” ‘The Johnson government said it did not consider harder steps, but aimed to offer everyone 18 to the booster.
